Dr. Sam Goldstein, a prolific author and child psychology specialist will speak at a conference addressing the unique challenges faced in polygamous communities. Dr. Goldstein will be speaking at the 5th Annual Safety Net Conference which will be held June 7 at the Utah State Capitol Auditorium.
Dr. Goldstein has authored, co-edited or co-authored 35 clinical and trade publications, including twenty-one textbooks. His keynote speech will be based on his latest book, “The Power of Resilience,” which provides useful strategies to handle life’s difficulties.
Elissa Wall, author of “Stolen Innocence: My Story of Growing Up in a Polygamous Sect, Becoming a Teenage Bride, and Breaking Free of Warren Jeffs,” and Safety Net Clinical Coordinator Shelli Mecham will also moderate a panel of adults who left plural communities.
The conference will also discuss the obstacles and opportunities handled by lawyers and social workers working with people from polygamous communities.
The Safety Net Committee brings together government agencies, non-profit organizations and interested individuals who are working to open up communication, break down barriers and coordinate efforts to give people associated with the practice of polygamy equal access to justice, safety and services.
